Personally, I find that the idea of the American Dream is part reality and part myth. When our society actively promotes the idea of helping each person reach their fullest human potential, we stand more on the side of it becoming reality. When we turn toward only issuing platitudes about it, the idea of an American Dream slips into the realm of myth. As I currently see things, the Bush administration and the current regime of conservative rule has moved it into a mythology by refusing to consider those among us in our country who are in the greatest need of attention -- the poor, the marginalized, and the oppressed.
